Why You Should Incorporate Concrete into Your Business

Why You Should Incorporate Concrete Into Your Business

Why You Should Incorporate Concrete into Your Business

If you own a commercial property or are a small business owner looking to spice up the interior of your store/office, have you considered incorporating concrete into its interior design? From concrete floors to countertops, and a number of other surfaces, concrete can provide any business with the look and appeal they’ve been seeking. Whether your goal is to create elegant ambiance within your store or to increase the value of your commercial property, concrete could be the material that’s right for the job.

The Types of Businesses That Benefit from Concrete

Although almost any businesses can employ concrete countertops, floors, patios, and other surfaces for functional and aesthetic purposes, the following businesses can greatly benefit from concrete as an interior/exterior addition:

  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Banks
  • Convenience Stores
  • Coffee Shops
  • Retail Stores
  • Gas Stations
  • Grocery Stores
  • And more

Almost every store has an area where customers can ‘check out’ and purchase their items. Why not use a sleek concrete countertop for the project? In addition to this, every business has a floor. Instead of constantly vacuuming or deep cleaning carpets or investing a great deal of money in another material, consider opting for a concrete floor installation. Concrete is a material with a great deal of longevity. While plain concrete doesn’t have a glamorous look, it can be installed to mimic a number of different materials.

How Overlays Make Concrete Versatile

Concrete can be made to look like a number of different materials such as wood, tile, stone, and more. This is done with a concrete overlay. An overlay is simply an additional layer of concrete that is poured on top of the base of a surface. It is done primarily for aesthetic purposes, although it can also be done to repair and reinforce older surfaces and structures. Concrete can achieve a number of glamorous looks for a fraction of the cost of certain other materials.

Why Concrete?

With so many flooring and countertop options available, why should your business choose to implement concrete? We’ll give you 3 solid reasons (pun intended).

1. Concrete is incredibly sturdy. If you operate a busy company, you’ll have a great number of customers in and out of your store on a daily basis. Concrete will be able to stand the wear and tear of daily shoppers, employees, and more.

2. Concrete offers an infinite number of designs! From different colors to textures, and the other flooring materials concrete can mimic, the possibilities provided by concrete seem endless. With concrete overlays and stamping, you should be able to find the perfect appearance for your business by choosing concrete.

3. If you’re interested in selling your commercial property, concrete additions can increase the overall value of your building. Consider using concrete for the properties’ floors, countertops, and more in order to increase the overall value of your building. In many instances, concrete will allow you to sell your property for more than it was initially quoted for.

With the many benefits provided by concrete, what are you waiting for? Call the Creative Concrete Solutions professionals today at 615-691-6613 to get started on adding concrete to your commercial property or business.

How to Prevent Salt Damage to Your Concrete

Did you know that salt could severely damage your concrete? A constant exposure to a salt substance is a great threat to your concrete pool deck, patio or other feature.

Creative Concrete Solutions knows how to fix your concrete when this situation occurs. But first, you need to understand how and why salt damages concrete.

How Salt Damages Concrete

One of the most common ways concrete is damaged by salt is through exposure to de-icing salts. Anything containing chlorides or is mildly acidic will attack and break down the bonds holding the concrete together.

The following factors of salt are known to harm concrete:

  • Salt significantly lowers the pH in the concrete. This process attacks the concrete paste, increases the pore size, and ultimately allows additional water, chemicals and other substances in to the concrete, thus harming the structure.
  • Salt is a hygroscopic substance, which means that it attracts and ultimately retains water. As we know, too much water in concrete leads to damage. When salt is applied to concrete, water is attracted, retained, and creates more pressure in the concrete.
  • Salt also quickens the carbonation process. In order for the outcome of the concrete to be correct, the carbonation process must take time and slowly reduce the overall pH.
  • Salts introduce chlorides to concrete. In turn, chlorides are the main aggressor in concrete corrosion.

Sulfate attacks are another common way that salt damages concrete. Sulfate is a salt of sulfuric acid. Sulfate can be found in natural waters, especially in rain. Exposure to sulfate will cause the concrete to significantly weaken and crumble.

Concrete Cracks and Cold Weather — What Do You Do?

Mother Nature is often unpredictable and gives us many things that are out of our control.  We can’t control the temperature, rain, hail, snow, or the damage she may cause to our personal belongings.  One of the most frustrating things is seeing dings in your car after it hails.  Another is seeing cracks in your concrete driveway and sidewalk leading up to your front door.  Cold and other natural causes can take their toll on your house’s pavement.  It’s unpredictable and irritating, but we at Creative Concrete Solutions have a few solutions that you should consider if the cold cracks your concrete.

Patch the Crack

There are several options out there that repair and seal cracks in concrete.  If it is an isolated crack, a sealant may be a smart choice.  This is a viable option that won’t cost much money.  Treating the crack promptly will keep it from causing more damage.  You can even use a shade of sealant that matches your driveway, making the crack less noticeable.  For those on a budget looking for a quick solution, this may be for you.

Resurface the Pavement

Let’s be honest, repairing your concrete isn’t how you want to spend your days off.  Consider hiring a concrete contractor who specializes in concrete repair to resurface your driveway or sidewalk.  There are several steps that they will take in order to assess the damage and treat the surface.  You won’t have to get rid of your existing concrete, but the surface will look brand new after the resurfacing is complete.

Get Completely New Concrete

Have you been debating for months on new ways to improve your house?  Do you have a plain, straight sidewalk leading up to your home?  If you have cracks in your surface and are debating ways to improve/redesign your home, now may be a great time to get creative.  While the cold lingers, you can plan how you want your surface to go.  A curvy sidewalk adds some appeal to your home.  When Spring rolls around, contact your local concrete contractor to put your plan to use.  They will help customize and take over the labor aspect of your creative thoughts.  Getting rid of your old and cracked concrete for a new customized sidewalk may be just the improvement that your home needs.

Cold weather isn’t always nice to your concrete, so consider some of these options on how to combat the problems it can cause.  There are multiple options for people on any budget, so contact your concrete contractor and lay your ideas out!

3 Untrue Myths You Should Never Believe About Concrete

As Murfreesboro’s premier concrete contractor, we’ve heard a wide variety of myths about concrete. However, the three myths below really take the cake. Concrete is a highly durable, reliable and marvelous material. The endless design, structure and appearance options your home and/or business can have with concrete are simply mind-boggling! Never, ever believe the following three concrete myths.

Add Tons of Water to the Concrete Mix — It’ll Be Better!

A common myth is that the more water you add to the concrete mix, the better. In reality, the proper water to cement ratio is key to the final result. If you add an incredible and overwhelming amount of water to the mixture, the chances of a surface crack increase dramatically. Always stick to the proper ratio for the best results!

All Concrete Will Crack

Not true! If your concrete structure is improperly installed, used an alarming amount of water (see above), or your concrete contractor did not use common industry practices, your concrete has a high chance of cracking. However, strategically poured and properly mixed concrete will yield a beautiful and sturdy result!

No Maintenance Required

Many homeowners believe that they will never have to maintain their concrete fire pit, concrete outdoor kitchen, and even concrete countertops. While concrete is extremely durable, regular maintenance and other safeguarding steps will protect and preserve your concrete structure.

If you have questions about how to maintain and protect your concrete structure in your Murfreesboro house or business, you can always call your local concrete contractors!

Creative Concrete Solutions is available to answer all of your concrete questions and debunk any concrete myth you may hear. We’re also ready to help you install your concrete countertops, garage floors, and any other type of concrete project you desire for your home. Call us today to learn more about our services!

Can You Remove Oil from Concrete? Yes!

Have you seen concrete parking lots ridden with oil stains from cars and other vehicles? While some businesses write off this issue, many others are looking for a solution to this issue. When oil is stained into concrete, it can produce an undesirable appearance. Fortunately, there are a few common solutions to remedy this issue.

Chemical Methods

Sometimes all it takes to remove an oil stain is a strong detergent, scrub brush and a sponge. However, this method typically only works for smaller and newer oil stains. For larger and older stains, use a concrete cleaner or degreaser. These products are concentrated alkaline soap used to scrub out oil from a concrete surface, and loosen up the oil stain to allow for a simple removal process.

Commercial concrete cleaners have one downside. They have a harder time working properly for heavily contaminated stains. If your oil and grease stains are years upon years old, another method will work more effectively for your purposes.

Poultice Method

Poultice is a solution made by saturating an absorptive material with a strong solvent. Common options for absorptive materials include:

  • Kitty Litter
  • Sawdust
  • Pool filters

Once your material is chosen, combine with one of the following solvent options:

  • Acetone
  • Lacquer Thinner
  • Xylene

After combining, smear the result over your oil or grease stain. Next, cover the poultice and stain with plastic, and watch it do its trick! The process of osmosis will take over, break down the oil stain and the kitty litter or saw dust will absorb the oil. While effective, the only downside to this method is the cost and time it takes. If you’re patient and have a budget, this option will work well for you.

Alternative Methods

Another option is actually a recent stain removal advancement; special single-celled microorganisms that survive on crude oil are actually used to remove a stain from concrete. The microorganisms eat up the oil, digest it and turn it into CO2. When the oil is no longer available, the organisms die and the concrete is completely clean!
